When it comes to skin care, body wraps are one of the most popular beauty treatments in the world. There’s a good reason why these treatments are such a favorite of spa clients everywhere. Body wraps are one of the best natural ways to improve and moisturize your skin, while relaxing in a place designed to bring you comfort.
Wraps are designed to improve the texture and appearance of the skin by helping to rid the body of excess fluids and toxins. Benefits of body wraps may include detoxification, boosting of the lymphatic system and metabolism, body contouring, temporary inch-loss, skin tightening, and skin softening.
You might notice:
• temporary inch loss
• softer, firmer, hydrated or cleansed skin
• reduced appearance of cellulite
• relaxed muscles.
Although any initial inch loss will sadly disappear once you drink some water, the wrap experience might just provide the motivation you need to start a healthier diet or fitness program.
Some wraps are designed to relieve tired or heavy legs and aching joints, and ease inflammation, and may be offered as a treatment for your lower body only.
Overall body wraps are designed to improve the texture and appearance of the skin by helping to rid the body of excess fluids and toxins. Exfoliate dry, rough skin; allowing deep hydration for a fresh, soft, healthy, invigorating glow.
Body wraps at Blue October can be provided and customized to your individual needs by a skincare specialist, including a facial as part of your service or by a massage therapist, including prima professional massage benefits to tired, achy muscles.

How it Works
In the same way that plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into energy, high intensity light emitting diodes (LEDs) utilizing specific, proven wavelengths of light can trigger a natural biostimulatory effect in human tissue. Research has shown that light emitting diode (LED) or phototherapy can increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne bacteria, decrease inflammation, improve acne prone skin, skin tone, texture and clarity, decrease under eye wrinkles as well as ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm, and pain associated with arthritis.
Celluma LED Treatments can be added onto any service you may be having or enjoyed as a STAND ALONE treatment. Take time to relax and unwind, enjoying the therapeutic benefits that Celluma LED offers, those best suited for your needs: acne, aging, pain or wound healing.
Best results are seen when utilized 1 - 2 times a week. Check out this month's special LED packages HERE, available now through the end of July.

We all love summer but only about 70% of adults use some type of sun protection on a warm, sunny day. But the same can’t always be said on days when it’s not as warm and sunny. June or January, if there are hours of daylight, there are harmful rays.
Only 10% of teenagers are applying sun protection, and we know it only takes a few sunburns to increase your risk of skin cancer exponentially… HAVE THE CONVERSATION!
When it comes to sun protection, some clients just don’t want to add another product to their lineup. This is where multifunctional products such as BB creams and tinted sunscreens come into play. These products offer sun protection and coverage, with many of them offering additional skin care benefits. Revision's Intellishade does just that. With antioxidants, peptides, DNA repair, SPF 45 and sheer mineral tint in variations to suit all skin types, this multi function product could be a one and done.
Though sun protection is commonly understood as benefiting aging skin and hyperpigmentation, SPF usage also helps all skin conditions, including rosacea and acne.
Rosacea and SPF
Sun protection prevents UV-induced free radical damage and inflammation that exacerbates the symptoms of rosacea. Sun exposure is widely accepted as the number one trigger for worsening rosacea symptoms.
Acne and SPF
SPF usage prevents excessive heat buildup and increased sebum production that can trigger breakouts. It also prevents hyperpigmentation scarring caused by acne. Exposure to the sun without protection while acne is occurring or in the process of healing increases the chance of scarring. This is due to inflammation and free radical damage that occurs with UV exposure.
Remember to apply SPF every morning, and if you have extended exposure to the sun, reapply your sun protection every two hours.
Over all please stay healthy, hydrated, happy and beautiful!
Facial cupping is meant to increase blood circulation and stimulate the facial cells that are responsible for collagen production. In turn, this can brighten your skin, minimize the appearance of scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and tone your chin, jawline, and neck by decreasing puffiness.
Facial cupping has been shown to:
• increase oxygen-rich blood circulation
• strengthen skin and connective tissues
• stimulate cells responsible for collagen production
• relax muscle tension
Because of this, the practice is said to:
• brighten skin
• minimize the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles
• tone chin, jawline, neck, and décolletage
• decrease puffiness
• regulate oil production
• improve nutrient delivery and product absorption
Yes and no. Although they are based on the same principle of restoration, facial and body cupping are executed differently. Facial cups are typically smaller and softer. They are used to gently pull the skin away from deeper layers of fascia. This increases blood flow to the area and rejuvenates the skin WITHOUT LEAVING CUP MARKS BEHIND. “Over time this practice improves the complexion and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles,” says Ananda Emily Reese, LAc, of Reese Acupuncture.
Body cupping, on the other hand, is primarily used to alleviate aches and pains. Cup marks are almost always left behind, but they do serve a diagnostic purpose; the size, shape, and color are said to reflect the amount of “stagnation” or cellular waste buildup. These marks fade as your lymphatic system processes the waste.

Microdermabrasion is a safe non-surgical treatment which works by removing cells from the outer layer of skin, promoting regeneration of new cells, collagen and elasticin. The result is skin that looks firmer, more toned, and more youthful.
Microdermabrasion is typically used on the face, neck, jawline, cheekbones and forehead. One of the most common reasons people use microdermabrasion is to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that can happen from natural aging, stress, and sun damage. Microdermabrasion can also be used to treat hyperpigmentation or age spots. In addition, it can be used for acne and blackheads and may help shrink pores.
How does microdermabrasion work?
Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure that exfoliates your skin cells. There are two main microdermabrasion techniques:
• Crystal microdermabrasion. This method involves tiny particles being directed at your face through a wand.
• Diamond-tip microdermabrasion. This involves an applicator that makes direct contact with your skin as it exfoliates.
Both techniques work by loosening and removing dead skin cells to reveal younger-looking cells.
Microdermabrasion may require repeated treatment sessions for you to see desired results. The amount of time spent getting the treatment can vary depending on its purpose and your expectations.
Barb's Earth Day Message
The COVID-19 global pandemic has forced most of us to stay indoors in order to prevent the spread of the virus. You would think that wearing sunscreen wouldn’t be necessary since you’re inside your house for the majority of the time but this is not the case. If your makeshift home office is right next to a window that’s letting in plenty of sunlight, you wouldn’t want to look 10 years older by the time self-isolation is lifted.
Ultraviolet (UV) rays come straight from the sun and damage skin by destroying collagen and elastin, which ultimately deepens the appearance of wrinkles. Staying indoors does not fully protect you from UVA rays as they’re still able to penetrate through glass windows. UVA rays negatively impact the skin by causing ageing and UVB rays cause sunburn.
Many of us are currently working from home and this means that we’re spending several hours staring at bright computer and phone screens. These devices emit ‘blue light’ which can actually increase the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is the result of excess melanin production which can cause insecurities in some people. This is why it’s important to still slather on some sunscreen when indoors.
Sunscreen should be a staple in your skincare routine regardless of your skin tone. Every skin tone on the color spectrum needs daily sun protection. U.S. based esthetician, Nayamka Roberts-Smith recommends a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) between 30 and 50. Sunscreens that are labelled as “broad spectrum” are especially effective in protecting your skin from blue light.

Dermaplaning is all the rage. The benefit of this treatment is to remove excess dead skin cells, revealing brighter, healthier skin. With the added perk of "shaving" the fine hairs away on the "surface" of the skin. So WHY haven't I added this treatment to my menu? Exactly because of the two key words above: "shaving" and "surface."
I offer Microdermabrasion (a treatment I've been slightly obsessed with for more than 17 years). This non-ablative procedure buffs away dead surface cells while simultaneously vacuuming up the dead cells, oils and debris that's trapped in your pores. The diamond tips of the microderm can be customized to skin type and condition being treated: dullness, fine lines, coarse skin and texture, uneven skintone, acne and pore size, fading scars and brown spots, stimulating cell turnover and creating collagen. I also offer SUGAR hair removal. This is an all natural, healthy alternative to waxing and can be done even on sensitive or rosacea skin types. Because this treatment is not heated, you will not be burned, it will not adhere to live skin cells, and you will not end up with an open wound. Sugaring removes hair at the root not just at the surface. Combining these two treatments together gives dramatic results that cannot be achieved with dermaplaning. Preforming a Microdermabrasion, removing all topical dead skin cells, oils, dirt and gunk, prepares the epidermis for easier sugar hair removal, leaving your skin baby soft. And because hair is removed from the root instead of at the surface (glorified shaving), the in between regrowth time is longer.
It's been stressful lately. We've been feeling it, too. Now more than ever is the time to pause and take a breath. . .several breaths. We're sharing this Controlled Breathing Exercise with you because we care about your health and the health of others.

In these uncertain health times, how are you handling the stress? How are you boosting your immune system? One easy thing you can do to elevate your happiness and immune system is to receive a therapeutic touch or massage!
Several research studies have been done on touch therapy through massage, facials, even by manicures or pedicures, and its benefits to the body. The power of touch can slow down the production of the stress hormone, cortisol, in addition to relaxing the whole body.
Regular massage can also increase the immune system’s cytotoxic capacity (the body’s “killer cells”), and decrease T-cells. This improves immune functioning throughout the body.
What used to be considered a "luxury," massage therapy and/or facial, hand, foot treatments has been shown to greatly increase one's well-being--mind, body and soul.
Who couldn't use a little relaxation, immune boosting, powerful touch in this time of social distancing? Schedule a treatment with one of our trusted practitioners and start reaping the benefits!
